Scott Belyea grew up in Grande Prairie before heading to Vancouver to pursue a career in filmmaking. He has completed 7 short films as writer, director and editor. His 2006 film Idaho won various cinematography awards as well as being named the Best English Language Film of the Year at the 2006 Young Cuts festival in Montreal. In 2009, his film Nomansland won Best Short Film at the 2009 Backseat Film Festival in Philadelphia. His film Ten Minutes Before Showtime won the Best Film award at the 2008 Bloodshots 48-Hour Contest in Vancouver. He finished the year as Editor and Post-Production Supervisor for Reel One’s Dear Mr. Gacy starring William Forsythe.
Scott has led filmmaking workshops for students every year since the first Reel Shorts Film Festival in 2007. He developed the first two Youth Filmmaking Challenge workshops in 2009 during which students created the shorts films Teenage Gangland and The Begotten. In 2010, students created three shorts during the workshops: The Wallflowers, The Big One, and Ninja Revenge.
