Application Deadline 6:00pm (MDT), Wed, June 20

The 2018 Shoot for Reel is a 5-day internship training program in Grande Prairie June 28 to July 2 for aspiring and emerging filmmakers aged 16 and over. It is made possible with support from Community Futures, the City of Grande Prairie, the County of Grande Prairie No. 1, and the Swan City Rotary Club.

The interns will assist Writer/Producer/Director Gordie Haakstad and Producer/Cinematographer Chris Beauchamp during the production of the short film Aeternitas, a Storyhive digital short. It’s the story of humanity’s first time travel experiment.

Similar to the first Shoot for Reel in 2012, the goal is to train aspiring and emerging Peace Region filmmakers during an intense hands-on professional production. Adult interns (over 18 years of age) will work various crew positions under the guidance of key mentors and production crew. The experience will help the interns understand how a set works, the specific functions of crew positions, and the overall practice of filming a short film. The adult internships are made possible with support from Community Futures.

Youth interns (age 16-18) will work as PAs (Production Assistants) and help facilitate the production in many facets, from set logistics to filling in where help is needed. PA positions are how most filmmakers start their careers. The youth internships are made possible with support from the Swan City Rotary Club.

Aspiring Peace Region filmmakers of all levels are encouraged to apply. There is no fee for this on-set training and mentorship. Adult interns are paid a small stipend. The deadline to apply is 6:00pm, Wednesday, June 20. Applicants will be notified by Saturday, June 23.
