Presented by Q99 and the Prairie Mall, this 104-minute package includes the 5 Academy Award nominated films for Best Live Action Short. One of the nominated films is Canadian: BROTHERHOOD, which won the Short Cuts Award for Best Canadian Short at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival, was written, produced, and directed by Tunisian-American Meryam Joobeur who is a graduate of Concordia University’s Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema in Montreal where she is currently based. A second nominated film has a Canadian-born writer/director: A SISTER (UNE SOEUR) was written and directed by Quebec-born Delphine Girard who grew up in Belgium where she is currently based. Four of the nominated films are foreign language films with English subtitles: A SISTER (French), BROTHERHOOD (Arabic), NEFTA FOOTBALL CLUB (Arabic), and SARIA (Spanish). Two of the nominated films have light-hearted comedic moments (NEFTA FOOTBALL CLUB and THE NEIGHBORS’ WINDOW) that balance more serious themes.

PRIZES
