I’m excited to announce that submissions are now being accepted for the 6th Reel Shorts Film Festival. The submission deadline is 4:30 pm on Thursday, December 15. Details can be found on our Submit page.
What can filmmakers expect from our festival? It is to be expected that programmers are a little biased about their own festivals, so let me include quotes from a few of the filmmakers who came to our last festival and who kindly gave permission to use the comments from their questionnaires.
Peace Region filmmaker Rio Fitch from Rolla, BC credits the festival for playing a big part in encouraging him. “I’m not sure I would have continued to submit to festivals if it were not for my first time there in 2010.â€Â The Driving Accident, which screened at our 2011 festival, has gone on to success on the festival circuit including winning Best Family Film at the “15 Minutes of Fame” International Film Festival of Short Films in Florida.
Now based in LA, British actor Napoleon Ryan attended the 2011 festival with a film he co-starred in called Furnace Four. The time he spent in Grande Prairie doing class visits and Q&A sessions after the screenings of his film was “great.” “The film programs were excellently curated and everyone who assisted or attended was wonderfully welcoming and hospitable.â€
Filmmakers can expect to receive “rock star†treatment according to Vancouver filmmaker Scooter Corkle who attended the festival as a director with a film in the 2010 program. He’s also been one of the leaders of the Youth Filmmaking Challenge workshops since 2009. “Every year Reel Shorts grows larger,†he says, and it’s “always amazing!â€
