Two great opportunities are coming up for aspiring and emerging filmmakers to develop their skills in Grande Prairie:
- A Filmmaking Hothouse – a FREE weekend workshop August 25-27 at the Ernie Radbourne Pavilion presented by Sandi Somers and Corey Lee with support from Telus Storyhive
- DD 1082 – Introduction to Video Production – a 15-week course Thursday evenings from 6:00pm to 8:50pm August 31 to November 30 at Grande Prairie Regional College taught by David McGregor
A Filmmaking Hothouse
Are you interested in exploring the filmmaking process or sprucing up your skills? Join award-winning filmmakers Sandi Somers and Corey Lee for an intensive weekend for adults at the Ernie Radbourne Pavilion in Muskoseepi Park (102 St & 102 Ave) that will cover all stages of filmmaking including writing the short film, directing, post-production, marketing, and proposal writing. With support from Telus Storyhive, this workshop is FREE!

- Writing the Short Film: Discover the art of writing a short film screenplay
- Directing: Explore the world of directing, breaking down scripts, responsibilities, communication, vision, and understanding on-set terminology
Sunday, August 27: 10am – 5pm (1-2 pm lunch break)
- The Art of Post-Production: Picture and sound editing, composition, timelines, marketing and promo, festivals and getting your films out to audiences
- Proposal Writing: Learning the art of proposal writing and where to access funds
DD 1082 – Introduction to Video Production
The DD 1082 – Introduction to Video Production course at Grande Prairie Regional College provides exposure to the techniques, theories, and practices of video production. During this 15-week course on Thursday evenings from 6:00pm to 8:50pm August 31 to November 30, students will learn how to direct with a camera, work with actors, and develop skills in story boarding, lighting, and sound in addition to producing their own video projects.

If you’ve never taken a course at GPRC before, there is a one-time $70 non-refundable application fee and what appears to be a lot of steps to go through, but don’t be intimidated by the full application process.
